Reason for this blog...

Hi everyone, I have created this blog because I'd like to post new works as I'm creating them. These paintings are of Kallista/Emerald Road in Victoria, Australia. It gets its name because it runs from Kallista to Emerald with a fair chunk of it running through "the Patch". It's a lovely road with lots of bends, making it a fun road to ride on and is therefore a favourite for cyclists. My idea is to stand in one spot and take a shot "up and down" the road, giving a view from one bend to the other.

This is a new painting I've been working on. It's part of a new series on large sculptured heads in the landscape. I want the heads to have an emotional human quality, as if they are alive. The first is the complete image and the second is a detail.
I will post some of the other works in the same series soon.

This little painting I did a while ago. It is of my dog "Becky". The reason I have it here is that sadly, she is no longer with us. She died last week due to a tumor in her abdomen. We had very little warning and before we could come to terms with the inevitable outcome, she was gone.
We will miss her dearly as she was our friend. She would spend just as much time as I do in my studio. She would sleep on the floor next to my easel, catching the sun as it came in through the window. If you look at the photo of my studio at the bottom of the page, you can see her in the lower right of the pic.
She was one-in-a-million. We will always miss her.

The first painting is of a previous work taken a bit further. The other 2, another one of William Road and hard rubbish at a farm are new works in progress.

This view is from just around the corner from The Patch School. It was in the afternoon and the light is shinning in from the left. It is a work in progress but I like the monotonal look of it. I think I will leave it this way and paint another with a greater colour range.

This is the part of Kallista-Emerald Road where Priors Road joins. It is Hard Rubbish time so it is fun to see what people throw out. Also it is interesting to see what others pick up before the rubbish contractors come to collect what is left. The painting is still a work in progress. We have just had 2 weeks of school holidays so not much painting done. Time to get back into it.
